Johans historie        dansk version

Our Johan was peacefully born at home in our living room, not too late not too soon, on  the 20.th of December 2000. A lovely boy of  3500 gr.  Dad, bigsister and grandmother all joined in. He came flying out in the arms of his farther  Thomas and the loving midwife Hanne guided us through. The birth went fast and quite naturally, but the left arm and hand came out first and Johan came out all wrong. He therefor got a bad double injury.  A total pareses on the right side and  partly paralysed left arm..

When  Johan was app.  1 month old we moved to Italy , Torino . We traveled often to Denmark for control visits at the hospital.  After 3 months without visible improvements, we were given, after a heavy fight with  Hillerød hospital, a permit to go to the Danish main hospital in Copenhagen -Rigshospitalet. There was a long waiting time and we chose to consult privately one of the specialists from Rigshospitalet. He was in no doubt, Johan had to received treatment as fast as possible.

At Rigshospitalet Johan was operated twice without no result at all.  Johan was both wrongly diagnosed, operated and given a totally wrong treatment.. All this before he was even one year old. When Johan turned  1, we came a last time for a check up and we were told, that they couldn'tīt do anything before he was in his teens.

This was absolutely not acceptable. A good friend told us there was more information too be found on the internet and this is how we found Lone and got in contact with her. Lone, who has a lovely daughter Petrine, gave us so a lot of good advice and without her, we would never have managed and succeed the way we have. And today we can only be great full that she was  around when we needed her.

With  some help and good advice, we managed to make a video of Johan, and mailed copies around the world to get some advice, we couldn'tīt get from Rigshospitalet. All the replies we received was giving the same answer, that there definitely could be done more, but time was running out, action was needed now, if any effect should be reached.

Because we lived in Italy at that time, we chose with help from another Danish doctor, well aware that the competences were not present in Denmark yet. He recommended Dr. Raimondi, that had the experience through many years of making these operations all over the world. When Johan was 13 months, he was operated by Dr. Raimondi in Milan . The late operation and the severe magnitude of the damage made it nearly impossible. But we finally got the correct primary operation, the correct diagnose and finally the correct treatment.........

In between all this, Johan has been given a lot of physical Therapy many times a week and attended a lot of examinations, pleasant ones and not so pleasant ones. It is every time a big stress factor and require persistence and patience. We have witnessed a lot of frustrations, but also many upturns. We have really tried a lot, we can mention the electrotherapy, which we can highly recommend. There is several different machines around and it is really a great support to the day to day exercises.

Now  Johan has turned 5.  The result of Dr. Raimondis operation came late and a lot of nails have been bitten (imagine if nothing would happen). But Johan is  Superman, he is still making impressive steps ahead. All this would never have been possible without the correct operation By Dr. Raimondi. We still cry every time Johan is making progress and how wonderful that he is still doing that.

In the meantime we have moved to Finland and is living close to Helsinki . We are getting superb treatment here. Their doctors and therapists are really good and professional and very good with children.  This has a very good influence on  Johan and makes us quite relaxed. Johan is attending occupational therapy once a week, where he is learning basic skills and for the first time he is really enjoying his practise. Johan has been very sad of his handicap and asks a lot of questions and we try to answer to give as many of the answers/explanations as possible. But he is a happy and active boy and he is not afraid to fight for what he wants, nothing is holding him back. We hope that he will grow up and feel that he can do whatever he wants.  We are grateful for all the support and help we have received from family and friends, it has warmed our hearts. Thank you
